Holistic Health deals with the theory that all energies are combined. This means that the physical is connected to the mental, which in turn is connected to the spiritual power that one possesses. There are a wide variety of practices that are subjects of holistic medicine including therapies such as yoga, reiki, aromatherapy, medicinal herbs, acupuncture and prolotherapy.
Supporters of these types of approaches believe that conventional and traditional medicinal approaches cannot deal with some problems that holistic approaches address. They claim that there are some things that typical medicine does not understand and therefore cannot prevent or treat. It may be to do with an underlying problem or a disease that is incurable by traditional standards.
Holistic methods and approaches have been used in many eastern countries for many centuries and they continue to use them today. It is only now we are becoming aware of other methods that we in the western world, are now trying them to see what kind of benefits we can achieve. Such practices are becoming more and more popular in places such as the USA and Europe where people have exhausted all options of traditional scientific medicine and are looking into various holistic approaches that might be available to them.
Supports of conventional medicine claim that holistic approaches cannot be specified to treat one or a number of diseases or illnesses. There does not exist enough scientific proof to justify the causes and approaches of holistic medicine. Skeptics argue that holistic approaches only can be beneficial to a person should it be promoted in a common sense fashion. This means dealing with the awareness that people need to exercise, eat healthy foods, be stress free and have a general healthy lifestyle.
The extreme other hand is that there are a few people that believe holistic methods are the only way to deal with illnesses and conditions and often neglect tried and tested medical approaches. This is a dangerous thinking and has led to lawsuits and convictions, as it should be understood that holistic approaches should not be seen as a replacement to traditional methods that have been proven to work.
Whether one decides to undertake a holistic treatment or not, it is important to understand what type of treatment is available. It is advised to go to a doctor or physician to seek advice before one undertakes any kind of alternative treatment.
